Well, infact I am also looking to find the best Biryani in Hubli. I am going to try Biryani of all possible restaurants in Hubli and list the best ones.
Anyways..
My first encounter with Andhra meals was back in 2004, in Bangalore. I was living in Jayabharat Nagar, near ITC Infotech in Cox Town, where a small Andhra family ran an Andhra mess out of their home.
For just Rs.10, you could enjoy a hearty meal consisting of steamed white rice, thick dal, a vegetable sabji, papad, mango pickle, sambar, and rasam. That meal instantly became a favorite of mine, and I found myself craving it often.
When I moved to Hubli in 2013, I always missed the authentic Andhra meals and eateries like Adigas and those cozy Andhra messes. So, when I stumbled upon Andhra Ruchulu in President Hotel, I walked in with no expectations, eager to see if it could fill the void.
The place was clean, quite and well maintained. However, I wondered why the place is not so filled like the other Andhra restaurants I am using to seeing in Bangalore like Nagarjuna, Nandhana palace and other popular Andhra restaurants.
Following my rule of thumb for trying new restaurants, I ordered the most common and popular dish—a full vegetarian Andhra meal.
Also, now I know why the place is not very crowded. The price per full veg meal in Hubli is around Rs.100 – Rs.150.
But in Andhra Ruchulu, the full veg meals is priced at Rs.310, it seemed a bit steep, but I was willing to give it a try.
The meal included a delightful array of 2 types chutneys, vegetable sabji, dal tadka, two chapathis, papad, pickle, a sweet, buttermilk, curd, sambhar, rassam, fried crispy chillies, and steamed white rice.
Now, there’s often talk about restaurants using soda to make customers feel fuller, and while I can’t confirm the truth of this, I did notice a feeling of heaviness and lethargy that lingered for the rest of the night. This isn’t something I experience after eating meals at home, which made me wonder.
As far as the taste goes, Andhra Ruchulu undoubtedly serves the best Andhra meal I’ve had in Hubli.
The flavors are authentic, rich, and comforting—exactly what you’d expect from a traditional Andhra meal. Unlike the other South Indian Khanavali meals in the region, which often lean towards being too bland, Andhra Ruchulu strikes the perfect balance, delivering bold flavors without compromising on taste and spices.
I can confidently say that the people of Andhra never compromise on the taste of their traditional food, and this restaurant stays true to that legacy.
So, if you’re craving a genuine Andhra culinary experience in Hubli, this is the place to go.
Oh yes, at the end of the meals, they offered ice cream but I was too full to eat it. So, I couldnt take the picture.
