Hubli Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Critically Injured as Iron Rod Falls from Under-Construction Flyover

Hubli flyover accident

In a tragic incident in Hubballi on Tuesday, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was severely injured after an iron rod fell on him from a flyover under construction at the Old Court Circle. The mishap has led to legal action being taken against more than 19 individuals associated with the construction project.

The ASI, 59-year-old Nabhiraj Dayannavar, was on his way to duty, passing through the area on his motorcycle, when the accident occurred. Despite wearing a helmet, the iron rod, which dropped from the crane above, caused significant head injuries. He was rushed to KMC Hospital, where he remains in critical condition under intensive care.

Dayannavar’s son, Vrishab, has since lodged a complaint at the Suburban Police Station. The complaint names several key figures involved in the flyover project, including the construction company’s managing directors, project managers, supervisors, and labor contractors, accusing them of negligence that led to the accident.

Upon learning of the incident, District Minister Santosh Lad and Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu visited the hospital to check on the injured officer. Speaking to the media, Minister Lad assured that top medical experts are overseeing the ASI’s treatment.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident as concern grows over safety protocols at the construction site.

This incident highlights the critical importance of enforcing strict safety measures at construction sites, especially in busy urban areas where accidents can endanger both workers and the public. It serves as a stark reminder that negligence in adhering to safety protocols can have life-threatening consequences. The case underscores the need for construction companies to prioritize regular safety inspections, better oversight, and the use of protective barriers around work zones to prevent similar accidents in the future. Ensuring accountability and fostering a culture of safety can help avoid such tragic mishaps.
